Every successful business owner has been where you are right now — at the starting line with little to no clients, wondering how to push through the challenges and grow their business. It’s natural to feel frustrated or discouraged when things don’t seem to be moving as quickly as you’d like, but this is just part of the journey. A beautiful reminder in this is: Zechariah 4:10, which says, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin".

Here are some reminders to keep you encouraged and moving forward:

1. Every Business Starts Somewhere

Every thriving business once started with zero clients. The brands you admire today all had to take that first step of launching into the unknown. Having no clients now does not mean you won’t have them tomorrow. This is your season of laying the foundation, learning, and refining your offer. Philippians 4:12-13 "I know how to make do with little, and I know how to make do with a lot. In any and all circumstances I have learned the secret of being content"

2. Focus on Progress, Not Perfection

It’s easy to get bogged down in feeling like everything needs to be perfect before clients will come your way. But perfection is not the goal — progress is. Take small, consistent actions each day to build your brand. Network, refine your marketing, reach out to potential customers, and develop your skills. Trust that these actions will compound over time and yield results. Proverbs 16:9: "In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps"

3. Build Relationships, Not Just a Client List

While you're waiting for your first client, focus on building genuine relationships. Engage with people who are interested in your niche, offer value without expecting anything in return, and be patient. People are more likely to work with you when they know, like, and trust you. Over time, your network will grow and eventually lead to new clients. Hebrews 10:24-25 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

4. Leverage the Power of Persistence

Success doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when you’re persistent. Keep showing up, even when it feels like no one is watching. Continue promoting your services, refining your offerings, and sharpening your skills. The breakthrough often comes right after the moments where you feel like giving up. Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up". This verse is about perseverance and can be a reminder that if we keep doing good, we will eventually be rewarded."

5. Celebrate Small Wins

Before the big clients and major contracts come, celebrate the small victories. Did someone leave a positive comment on your social media post? That’s a win. Did someone inquire about your services, even if they didn’t book? Another win! Each step forward is progress, so take a moment to appreciate how far you’ve already come. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus".

6. Trust the Process

It’s important to trust the process and understand that building a business takes time. There may be quiet seasons, but that doesn’t mean failure. Use this time to strengthen your brand, grow your skills, and fine-tune your marketing strategies. Your patience and persistence will pay off. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

7. Believe in Your Value

Sometimes the biggest obstacle to gaining clients is self-doubt. Remember, the world needs what you have to offer! There are clients out there right now who are looking for the solution you provide. Believe in your value and confidently promote your services.

1 Timothy 5:18 “You shall not muzzle an ox while it treads out the grain,” and, “The laborer is worthy of his wages.”

Every business owner faces challenges along the way, but the ones who succeed are the ones who keep going, even when the road is tough. You might not have clients today, but that can change tomorrow. Stay focused, stay persistent, and remember that success is built over time. Keep believing in yourself — your breakthrough is just around the corner!
