Smart Strategies for Navigating the Social Media Shift and Choosing the Right Platforms

As the TikTok ban continues to raise questions about the future of social media marketing, many businesses are scrambling to find the next big platform. While exploring new options is important, it’s equally crucial to approach these changes strategically and thoughtfully.
We’ve noticed a rise in apps like Red Note, which may seem like tempting alternatives, but often come with hidden risks. Before downloading any app, take the time to understand its privacy policies (especially if they’re in a different language) and evaluate how it can genuinely support your business goals. Blindly jumping onto a new platform could do more harm than good.
While we were led to believe that TikTok was permantently banned, it was "paused" in the US for less than 24 hours and users have since noticed some changes within the app. Below are some updates on the app since the "blip":
Service Restoration: TikTok services were restored on January 19, 2025, after President Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order delaying the ban.
Executive Order and 75-Day Reprieve: On January 20, 2025, President Trump signed an executive order granting a 75-day extension for TikTok's operations in the U.S. This period allows ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, time to negotiate a sale of its U.S. operations to address national security concerns.
Potential Buyers: President Trump has expressed openness to potential buyers such as Elon Musk and Larry Ellison. Discussions are ongoing regarding the sale of TikTok's U.S. operations, with considerations about the inclusion of key components like the app's algorithm, which could impact the user experience.
App Store Availability: Despite the restoration of services, TikTok remains unavailable for new downloads in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store in the U.S. due to the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act. Existing users can continue to access TikTok through the web-browser version, while new users are unable to download or update the app during the 75-day extension period.
At Visio Dei, we're here to guide you through this social media shift. We’re currently diving deep into potential TikTok alternatives, such as Lemon8 and Neptune, to evaluate their potential for our clients. While it’s exciting to explore new opportunities, we also encourage you to keep an open mind about further establishing platforms like YouTube and Instagram, which still offer incredible potential for brand growth.
Stay tuned as we help you prepare for this transition, ensuring your business is ready to thrive on the next big platform.
